Welcome Address

Dear Colleagues,

We cordially invite you to Marburg for the 1st International Epilepsy Colloquium and we are much looking forward to meeting you soon!

Mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (MTLE) is the most frequent type of focal epilepsy and is especially likely to become drug resistant. Furthermore, MTLE is one of the epilepsy syndromes best characterized by clinical and basic science research. We have invited some 60 international experts in the field who will present to you all aspects of MTLE including genetics, psychosocial consequences, novel imaging techniques and alternative surgical strategies used. After each of the sessions dedicated to one of these topics cases will be presented and extensively discussed with you and a panel in order to directly relate the contents of the plenary lectures to clinical practice.

Beside the intense consideration of MTLE and related syndromes during the day, there will be time to meet your international colleagues from over 30 countries participating, and enjoy the medieval town of Marburg with the famous St. Elisabeth Church and the 15th century castle, where the 2nd reception on Monday evening will take place.

Sincerely yours
